I started seriously looking for a cover about a month ago and started looking at 99designs because it sounds like a good deal. (and is for the commissioner) But someone talked me into checking out r/Hungryartists instead. I gave it a shot and there are a LOT of talented artists that do really good character portraits.

But that's not what I was looking for in my cover. (This time) I narrowed it down and took a chance on an artist that I don't think has done a cover before. I ended up working with Alexandre Douanier (also known as Mr. Panka) because of this https://www.instagram.com/p/B-P4A5VjuMz/ picture. Less so because of the character portrait, but the detail and how he made armour look. He was within my budget and does great work so we started working together and it was hard.

Working with talented people kinda sucks cause I kept wanting to go "That's awesome" but it wasn't perfect and I told myself to be picky for the cover. Alexandre was very accommodating and offered some input as well. With the help of a few other writers, we've brought together a front and back cover and honestly, now it feels real. My first draft didn't feel real. Beta readers were a struggle but, didn't really hit me. Now it's hitting me, now I get it.

While I won't be showing it for a while yet. It's a BIG step that has rocked me and makes me feel kinda giddy. I don't think I will be able to handle holding a copy. I'll just fall apart.
